This week's Barefoot Blogger's pick by Mary of Passionate Perserverance is one of my all-time favorite Ina recipes and the best chocolate cake recipe I have ever found. The addition of the coffee to this cake really enhances the chocolate flavor and the buttermilk produces a very moist cake. I've made this cake several times to rave reviews since first discovering the recipe. I have also posted about this recipe twice! Here is my first post about this recipe. I like Ina's frosting but it can be a bit time intensive to make. One day in a pinch I paired this cake with this Chocolate Sourcream Frosting and I fell in love with the pairing. The sour cream added a nice richness and tang to the frosting and gives it that good old fashioned chocolate cake taste!

Yum! Looks great! I was sort of wondering if the frosting was mocha - since it looks a little lighter. But the Chocolate Sourcream Frosting sounds heavenly.
I have wanted to make this cake forever - I guess it's about time I stopped being lazy and GOT TO IT!
I thought Ina's frosting was silky and quite lovely-- HOWEVER, I think a sour cream frosting would be amazing. I'll have to try your frosting another time, fer sher!
You know... I think this might quickly have become my favorite chocolate cake recipe. It was so moist, so delicious. Yum!
I don't know how I did it, but after I made the frosting there was chocolate everywhere: on my clothes, worktops and drawers but I actually quite liked it.
Thanks for visiting my blog :)
Yum! I can not wait to cut ours this weekend. I baked it last night for DH's birthday party this weekend. I will have to try your sour cream posting another time.
Sour cream frosting...always a winner...especially with chocolate cake!
What a fabulous combo! Bravo!
I'm glad you were bowled over by this one, too. I'll have to try your sour cream frosting some time, it sounds very good!
